20%

I was just informed by my doctor that my chance of having a successful pregnancy, given my age (40-42) is 20%. We'll be paying close to $20K for a 20% chance of getting pregnant, "if we treat the immunological factors that we have identified as they may well have caused a problem with implantation in your previous transfers."

Dear G-d in heaven.

Think I'll go check out some adoption blogs for inspiration...

Ugghh, I hate it when doctor's throw around statistics like that. I agree that it's very frustrating news. (((HUGS)))

Dude, that blows. BUT. This cycle is going to be VERY different from all of your other ones... Which should be a significant factor - that's my vote anyway!

Hang in there!

Doesn't it seem like those of us who blog seem to land on the wrong side of any statistics?

So sorry :(.

I hate doctors and their stupid statistics...I don't know HOW they calculate this stuff - how could they POSSIBLY KNOW this? Really? There are so many variables and there's so much mystery. I don't know, Jem...I'm sorry that you feel, based on what he said, that your chances aren't good. And we all know IVF is a gamble anyway. It's not an easy decision, and it's your decision. That said, you've had 2 IVFs and an FET and tried lots naturally...G-d knows you're due for your 1 in 5 success now, aren't you? Stranger things have happened...and you know we're all here to support you no matter what you do.
Love,
Maddy

Well, that just sucks. I mean, 20% is a chance, but still.

If you do end up going with adoption down the road, my sister and her husband used the absolute best agency. Let me know if you ever want details (time, money, process) or their information. I don't mean to push adoption on you, just saying that if down the road you choose it, I know some good people :)

Ugh!! But you know what the good news is? The average woman trying to get pregnant naturally has a 20% chance of success any given month. And some how, THAT seems to happen all the time!

Hang in there....

I know it sounds hopeless, but don't think about the statistics. My final IVF attempt, I was told that I didn't even have a 1% chance (I had insurance coverage and that was the only reason they agreed to do the cycle) and now I'm looking at my 3 month old. It will happen for you.

Those are actually pretty good odds in your 40's but you've got a really good doctor!

Sounds like you don't have insurance for anything...yikes! I used to buy/sell mine on freegaragesale.com and save a bundle. Just be careful and try to deal with folks in person that route if possible.

What is your immune protocol looking like?

Thinking of you! Without "pushing" anything remember if you go that route - you will love your baby and your baby will love you whether he's the product of 20% odds or 1 in a million twist of fate....
